What is the change in the 2007 Daylight Saving Time for the United States?

The United States has planned a change to its Daylight Saving Time observance beginning in 2007.  The U.S. Energy Policy Act passed by Congress in 2005 modifies the starting and ending dates for Daylight Saving Time (DST).   The Act extends DST by approximately four weeks.  As a result we will “spring forward” on March 11, 2007 instead of April 1, 2007, as would have been the case without the adoption of the Act.   Additionally, we will “fall back” on November 4, 2007 instead of on October 28, 2007.

How do I update EndoWorks?

The step-by-step instructions are available in the DST_Readme.pdf document located below.   This document requires Adobe® Reader®.  If you do not have it installed, a free reader can be obtained at http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

To obtain the update file (DST2007.exe) and directions on how to update your workstations and/or server(s), simply download both files below.   It is recommended that you download both files to your Desktop, so that these files can be easily located.   The update must be run on each of your workstations and, if applicable your server.  It is recommended that you run these updates prior to March 11, 2007.

When running this update, please be sure:

  • All programs have been stopped — including Apache and HL7 on servers
  • Update is run on ALL your computers — servers and workstations
  • Update is run AFTER HOURS when all users are off the system
  • This update is for EndoWorks solutions that run on Microsoft XP and 2000. Manual steps will need to be taken if your EndoWorks solution is being run on an unsupported version of Windows (3.1/95/98).

Step-by-Step Directions on how to perform the update:

DST_README.pdf

Update file:
DST2007.exe

How does this impact EndoWorks?

Your EndoWorks solution will automatically be updated when you update your computer’s clock.   For more information on how to perform this task, please refer to the DST_README.pdf file located in question #2 above.

When I run this update does it matter which version of EndoWorks I’m running or which operating system I’m running?

No, the update file (DST2007.exe) was created to work for all EndoWorks users independent of what version of EndoWorks or supported operating system (Windows 2000/XP) they are running.

What is the manual process to update computers running unsupported operating systems (Windows 98/95/3.1)?

  1. Click the Start button located in the lower left corner of the screen.
  2. Point the mouse to Settings > Control Panel and click the Date and Time command to display the “Date and Time Properties” dialog box.
  3. Click the Time Zone tab.
  4. Clear the Automatically adjust clock for daylight saving changes check box.
  5. Click the Date & Time tab.
  6. Manually adjust the time to reflect the Daylight Saving Time change.
  7. Click OK to save the changes and close the dialog box.

Note: You will need to repeat these steps whenever time is adjusted for Daylight Saving Time.

What happens if I opt to never update?

Unless these updates are applied to your computer, it is possible that the time zone settings for your computer's system clock may be incorrect during this four-week period. This depends on where you live and which time zone you have selected.

If you choose not to take any action, your system clock and calendar will no longer automatically adjust for daylight saving time at the proper time each year. This means that your EndoWorks system will adjust three weeks late in the spring and one week early in the fall.

I missed the March 11th 2007 date, can I still update?

Yes, the updates can be applied at any time.
